Support women for economic independence

Support women in unlocking their potential and achieving economic independence. Your support will help women get themselves out of poverty and take control of their economic future.
Balgo (Wirrimanu) is a tiny, remote township more than 3,000 kilometres by road from Perth. The cost of living is ridiculously high. Unemployment in Balgo is more than 50%.

The women of Balgo decided they needed to create their own jobs and formed the Piriwa Enterprise Hub, selling secondhand clothes in a shipping container.

With your help, we fund Bianca Long, a Jaru woman, to work as a mentor in Balgo. Together with another mentor, Sarah Landro, a photographer, they are working with the women and girls of Balgo to give them ideas for economic independence, and to show them that they can create their own businesses, earn an income and be successful.

Bianca is working with the women of Balgo to design and produce clothing and to upcycle clothing from the Op Shop. They aim to have a collection by 2025 selling at the Kimberley showcase. Part of the funds raised will be used to help young women learn financial literacy.

Your support makes life-changing initiative possible.

Locally initiated businesses. A fresh perspective on life that shows local women that they can take control of their economic futures and how to do so.

Having Bianca as a First Nations mentor from the region is so important. She can help them learn about creative enterprise and business and how they can showcase their unique culture for social and economic benefit.

“But,” says Bianca. “It’s not just about skills, it’s about leadership development too.”

“I’m teaching them to be stronger women who can speak up and lead the change in economic development.”

This work changes how women see themselves and their opportunities, and thus changes their futures and lives around them. Strong women mean strong communities.

“It teaches them that it’s OK for women to stand up and be leaders.” says Bianca.

Your gift will make a real difference to women in Balgo and many others worldwide who are trying to gain greater dignity, confidence and independence.
